Abstract：SNMPv3 introduces a security subsystem into the management framework and defines a User-based Security Model(USM)， which enhances the security of SNMP。Through MAC、encryption and timestamp，USM protects management messages from communication threats。The paper describes the elements 、implementation of USM，tests the efficiency、performance and analyzes the impact on the whole system’s performance。
